AIMS: EMR

Statistics

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) provides reimbursement of funds spent to adopt Electronic Medical Records (EMR) that achieve meaningful use.

One of the most common reasons cited for adopting an EMR is to reduce medication and other preventable errors, including allergic reactions. EMRs can also aid in improvement of chart completion, improve work documentation allowing for appropriate evaluation and management coding (E&M) coding, improve workflow, facilitate computerized physician order entry (CPOE), eliminate labor and space associated with the manual management of paper charts and provide access to charts in every office and department by multiple staff involved in the patient encounter at the same time.
