Anemia and coagulation

Clinical - Hematologic

Anemia also affects the coagulation cascade. In a sample of 29 patients with chemotherapy induced anemia, decreased hemoglobin was associated with a delay in the initiation of the coagulation cascade as well as a clot that is both stronger and has superior viscoelastic properties.

More studies are necessary to elucidate the clinical impact of anemia on blood hemostasis.
